Into a deep relationship with him…

Into a deep relationship with him…

In the modern world people are content with a minimal relationship with everyone- the so-called hi-bye relationship. It is much easy to smile at one another and pass by without really getting to know the other person deeply. Today people believe it is better to maintain a shallow relationship with everyone in order to avoid inviting problems; forgetting the truth – “The sweetness of a deep relation can only be enjoyed by experiencing it”.

It is the same with God our creator. He longs for a deep relationship with us; but we, ‘his creation’ is content by just knowing his existence. Neither we have time to connect with him deeply nor have interest in it.

But, Great things will happen and we will experience miracles made possible only by the hand of God by launching into a deep relation with God.

we read “When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch”. Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets”. When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.

Here we see Jesus saying to Simon to cast his nets into deep water for a catch. A tired Simon replies that he had been working hard all night without any result. But in spite of his tiredness, he casts into deep, to see an amazing result of large number of fish in his nets that the nets began to break.

Like Peter, Jesus says to us to put out our nets into deep waters, when we might be contented working hard with casting our nets in the shallow waters. To see amazing results in our lives its essential to cast our nets deeper- deeper into a relationship with God and not just knowing the existence of him .Everyone is a stranger in the beginning ,be it be our spouse or a friend but we build deep relationship with them as we begin to spend more time with them in our life. A deep relationship with God develops when we spend time with Him through casting our nets deeper into our prayer life and the meditation of his word. In 1 Thessalonians 5:171 Thessalonians 5:17

paul says”Pray without ceasing”
. Prayer is a conversation with God. It is not just for times of suffering or joy but for every moment of our lives and it should not be our last resort; we should start, continue throughout and end every day by giving it to God.

Going into deep waters is unlike casting the net in the shallow waters. It was a well-known fact that in the Sea of Galilee, fishermen caught fish at night in the shallow water—not in full daylight in deep water. In our lives when we face situations where God commands us to launch deeper in opposition to our experience and known facts, would our response be “Master I have been working all my life only in the shallows and I dont know how to cast nets deep”? Everyday we complain of our busy schedules, time limits, hard work and toils asking God how to cast our nets deep?, how to build a relationship with him , how to walk faithfully with him when we have no time for anything including prayer, meditating gods word and even for our family and fellow believers. It is this question or doubt of how to cast into deep pulls many of us behind ,leaving us to remain in the shallow waters near the shore. It’s one thing to receive Jesus as our Saviour; which is the shallows but it’s another thing to wholeheartedly follow Him as a disciple which makes us cast into deep. Its our priority in life which makes us to go deep. Moving into deep water requires a full commitment. Love is what steers us into a committed relation. Love changes our life’s priorities. No one compels us to spend time or buy a gift for our loved ones! It comes naturally out of love. According to Mark 12-30 you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ When we love God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our mind and with all our strength our priorities will change and we are driven by his love to cast our nets deep undoubtedly even though we are not veterans in it.

Lets ask Simon how did he obey Jesus when he knew that according to his experience and known facts his act would produce no fruit. Peter chose to leave his human reasoning and his comfort zone to place a blind faith in the powerful word of God. Its our faith in God and his word that enables us to move forward, cast deeper and experience new things and receive great miracles which God has kept for us. We should be open to hear Gods commands not comparing or analysing it with our situations or known facts for we are called for discipleship and discipleship is not a life of logic or reasoning. It is a life of faith in Christ Jesus[2 Corinthians 5:72 Corinthians 5:7

-For we live by faith, not by sight]

Great things will happen and we will experience miracles made possible only by the hand of God, when:we obey and have faith in Jesus’s words to go into deep water , and put his word into practice by letting down the nets for an amazing catch.

May God help you to launch into a deep relationship with him. God bless you!
